Start : Vitoria-Gasteiz

Vitoria-Gasteiz is located in the heart of the Basque Country, in northern Spain. It is the capital of Alava and has a population of 235,651 people as of 2015. The city has a strong historical connection to the Basque Country; it was the first capital of the Kingdom of Biscay, and later became one of the capitals of Navarre.

Today, it is known for its universities, green spaces, and medieval old town.

The city center is home to several medieval landmarks, including the Cathedral of Santa Maria and the Church of San Miguel. For a taste of Basque culture, be sure to visit one of the many museums or art galleries in town. Vitoria-Gasteiz is also home to two universities, the University of the Basque Country and the Public University of Navarre.

2022 marks the 20th time the La Vuelta departs from from Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of Alava. The last time was in 2020.

It’s been more than half a century has passed since the last time Laguardia hosted La Vuelta. If the 1967 La Vuelta, the Alava municipality hosted the starting point. In 2022, it’s the finishing point.
